Spring 2006 SE Council
The
Spring 2006 Southeast Council went well. We give thanks to the Indians
in
Sobriety Campout Committee of Cherokee, NC for hosting this first
council.
We sincerely hope the council gathering was mutually beneficial. We
also
give thanks to Gary C. of AL, NAIGSO Member-at-Large, for his
assistance
with organizing the Spring 2006 Southeast Council.
The
theme of the Spring 2006 SE Council Gathering was "vision".
Individuals
spoke
very passionately regarding keeping the children sober and drug-free
as well
as the fact that clean and sober parents are necessary to pass their
culture
and traditions on to the children. Also discussed was that the
purpose
of having a SE Council is to open the communication channels for
individuals
and groups to share experience, strength, and hope with each
other.
No one need stand alone, even if they are the only person on their
reservation
or in their town. Together we can accomplish what no single one
of us
can do on our own.
The
people have spoken and said they want these councils held as talking
circles,
so that will be the plan for the summer 2006 council.
The
flyer for the Summer 2006 Southeast Council is attached to this email.
Freely
distribute the flyer to anyone that might benefit. You do not need to
be a
Native American Indian or an alcoholic or drug addict to attend or to
speak -
in fact, you don't even have to live in the southeast.
Please
send me an email if you have any questions, if you want to hear
something
specifically discussed at the summer council gathering, or if you
have
comments regarding the organization of the SE Council.
Also,
email me if you would like to volunteer to help with the Summer 2006
SE
Council Gathering or if you would be willing to host either the Fall or
Winter
2006 SE Council.
Please
forward flyers or information regarding events being held in your
area
for distribution. Let me know if you would like your event posted on
the
NAIGSO website.
